U.S. Navy to Launch Littoral Combat Ship Named for the Twin Cities
The Navy will launch the future USS Minneapolis Saint Paul at 10:00 AM (CST) on June 15th at Fincantieri Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wisconsin. The event is the official christening of the 400 foot warship that will carry the cities' namesake for generations. The vessel is a "Freedom" variant of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) class, a multi-mission platform that has shallow water capabilities. The Navy will commission the ship in the fall of 2020 before it reports to its homeport of Mayport, Florida. Learn more about the ship at the Commissioning Committee's website HERE.
